Exciting New UK Hotels Opening for Autumn 2023

We’ve curated a collection of the latest hotel openings. These ideal escapes are perfect for this cosiest of seasons. Whether you wish to spend a winter weekend at a renovated Victorian villa in the Lake District, breath in some fresh air in a new welsh mountain retreat or savour views of Edinburgh castle from your room.

Estelle Manor, Oxfordshire

For a country-house hotel that offers something for everyone, take a look at this newly opened Oxfordshire pad. A sister to private club Maison Estelle in London, it has a kids club, gym, workspace and outdoor pool; a Roman baths complex featuring five indoor pools is due to open soon. Stay in elegant Manor House rooms with vintage furnishings or in child-friendly properties scattered throughout the grounds. You can eat informally in the brasserie, or live it up in the Chinese restaurant, with its Murano glass chandeliers and green velvet seats.

Langdale Chase, Cumbria

Lake District hotels are ten a penny but this Victorian villa, on the banks of Windermere, is looking good after a £9-million renovation over more than three years. The best rooms have watery views, with a suite in the original boathouse. An exact date for the autumnal reopening is yet to be announced.

The Bell at Charlbury, The Cotswolds

Who doesn’t love a cosy pub once autumn starts to bite? New to Carole Bamford’s Daylesford portfolio is this 17th-century inn. When it opens, it will feature 12 bedrooms, an ash bar and inglenook fireplaces. The restaurant will use produce from local suppliers and Daylesford Organic to create family sharing platters.

100 Princes Street, Edinburgh

Expect nods to its past as the former home of the Royal Over-Seas League when this hotel opens on 1 November. A staircase mural features famous adventurers, and the Explorers Club is the place for whisky and wine. Some rooms have views of Edinburgh Castle.

Penmaenuchaf, Snowdonia

Since Neil and Zoe Kedwood opened Pembrokeshire’s Grove of Narberth in 2008, it has become one of Wales’s best hotels. Now they’re working their magic on Penmaenuchaf, which they bought earlier this year (2023). Four new suites have been created at the top of the hotel, blending old-world charm and modern design. From the antique Welsh lace on the walls to the local pottery, there is a great sense of place at this mountain retreat; the hotel is in Eryri National Park, at the foot of Cadair Idris and overlooking Mawddach Estuary. The other bedrooms are due to be refurbished this winter.

The Angel at Hetton

It’s good news for foodies who want to stay overnight after a Michelin-starred meal – Michael Wignall’s renowned restaurant with rooms gains five more Scandi-chic bedrooms this month. With feature bathrooms and views of Rylstone Fell, the stylish new additions join an existing 15 bedrooms, of which a third are also being refurbished.

No 1 Mayfair, London

With more than 1,300 plants, this hotel has a good claim to be London’s greenest. It also features a living wall façade, a check-in desk hewn from a 200-year-old felled oak, and room sensors that turn lights and air conditioning off… plus a hefty price tag.

Margate House, Kent

Joining a wave of new hotels, art galleries, restaurants and independent shops in Margate, this nine-bedroom guesthouse references the bohemian seaside resort and its arty reputation at every turn. An ever-changing gallery of emerging artists is on show in the drawing room; vintage posters also grace the walls. The biggest rooms have bay windows with sea views. Decorated in warm pinks, terracotta and burgundy, they come with wavy headboards on the beds and scalloped lampshades, while the contemporary bathrooms feature toiletries using seaweed handpicked in Margate. Breakfast hampers are delivered to the rooms.

Broadwick Soho, London

They’re promising to channel both the grit and the glamour of Soho into this 57-room hotel when it opens in November. We can’t see any evidence of the former but the flamboyant Martin Brudnizki interiors do feel extremely glamorous. The hotel has a rooftop cocktail bar with wraparound terrace, as well as an Italian restaurant and a residents’ lounge, with fireplace and record player.
